Mara:
I would like to introduce you to Nigel who is a mindfulness and meditation teacher. I asked Nigel to share with us how he discovered mindfulness and meditation and why he decided to train as a meditation teacher. Here is his answer:
Nigel:
Hi, my name is Nigel and I am a mindfulness and meditation teacher.
In 2016 whilst looking for a non-medical solution for anxiety, I discovered mindfulness and meditation which had a profound effect on my stress and anxiety levels, as well as on my health and wellbeing. I began by using popular meditation apps and later, through research I discovered MBSR, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, a programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the university of Massachusetts medical school which had a wealth of scientific research that supported it. The course changed my life and the way I approached life. It gave me the framework for, and helped me develop, a strong mindfulness practice that I could apply in all aspects of everyday life and gave me an understanding of what was happening in my brain and body.
In 2020, during the global pandemic, I decided to train to teach mindfulness and meditation, to pass on what I had learnt and to offer support to others. To pay it forward and to share with others the skills I have learnt, initially I studied to teach the MBSR course on which I had studied and afterwards to teach the CMR course, which I am offering here.
The CMR (Compassionate Mindful Resilience) course, designed by Mindfulness UK, is a stand-alone introductory course to mindfulness and compassion. It is suitable for anybody, including companies, groups, or individuals and it is particularly helpful for those in roles where they are supporting/caring for others. No previous mindfulness or meditation experience is necessary.
By using simple yet effective evidence-based practices, skills and techniques, you will learn to manage stress better, develop resilience and enhance your wellbeing with mindfulness and compassion.
Participants learn through a blend of concepts and experiential practice which enables them to be better equipped to cope with everyday challenges, cultivate self-kindness and develop feelings of empowerment.
As part of the course you will receive a student handbook with three 10-minute audio recordings to practice between classes.
I look forward to seeing you on the course and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
